Fracture Me: The 2nd Novella in the Shatter Me Series

Intro

Fracture me is the second novella in the Shatter Me series right after Unravel Me and follows Adam's perspective. This novella takes place during the war between Omega Point and the Reestablishment, and Adam's only priority is making sure James is safe. James is scared that Adam will get hurt, and Adam constantly reassures him that James always comes first to him but he's too young to fight. Kenji is still recovering but demands to fight anyway, and Adam notices how off Juliette seems because of Kenji's accident and also now that Warner escaped. However they all must fight, and everyone is constantly looking out for each other and making sure to protect each other. After they have stopped fighting, they manage to find safety- only Juliette is not with them and has been taken by Warner's soldiers, and Adam and Kenji have to go back out into battle and risk their lives once again to save her.

The Good

• THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ADAM AND JAMES IS SO SWEET AND PRECIOUS THEY HAVE ONLY HAD EACH OTHER THEIR WHOLE LIVES AND NOW ADAM IS REASSURING JAMES THAT HE WON'T DIE IN WAR BUT IF HE DOES JAMES HAS ALWAYS COME FIRST TO HIM

• It's so sweet that even though Juliette broke up with Adam and he is still hurting from it he still hates that she keeps getting hurt and defends her in front of Kenji when Kenji wants her to stay away from touching him even though it was revealed in Unravel Me that Warner was actually the one who hurt Kenji and Juliette never touched him

• AWWW JAMES WAS ON THE BATTLEFIELD EVEN THOUGH HE WASN'T ALLOWED TO BUT HE WAS SCARED AND WANTED TO FIGHT WITH ADAM AND HE JUST WANTED TO HELP ADAM

• JAMES AND ADAM AND KENJI AND THE REST OF THE PEOPLE WHO FOUGHT ARE GOING TO JAMES' OLD HOUSE FOR SHELTER AND FOOD AND SAFETY AND THEY CAN BE DONE WITH OMEGA POINT AND THEY DON'T HAVE ANYONE TO FIGHT ANYMORE SINCE THEY KILLED ALL THE REMAINING REESTABLISHMENT SOLDIERS STILL ON THE BATTLEFIELD

• ADAM SAYS ALMOST LOSING JAMES MADE HIM REALIZE THAT THE REESTABLISHMENT SEPARATES PEOPLE FROM THEIR LOVED ONES AND HE CAN NEVER BE A PART OF THAT AGAIN

The Bad

• James wants to come with Adam onto the battlefield even tho he is just ten years old but it is too dangerous and Adam says they are never having this conversation again

• I hate the way that the soldiers treat the civilians so horribly and they don't even care about the innocent woman they are dragging off who is screaming for her family

• Ew when Kenji and Adam see Juliette in the back of a truck with warner's men Kenji says let's go get our girl back and Adam says she's his girl i don't like that he doesn't get to call her that anymore they are already broken up

• WHAT CASTLE SAYS THE SOLDIERS PLAN TO BOMB OMEGA POINT  AND MAKE IT ALL COLLAPSE ON ITSELF UNDERGROUND

• NO KENJI WON'T LET ADAM SAVE JAMES BECAUSE THEY NEED TO SAVE PEOPLE ON THE BATTLEFIELD AND LOOK FOR JULIETTE BUT JAMES IS THE ONLY PERSON ADAM CARES ABOUT AND HE TELLS KENJI THAT HE CANT BE THE REASON JAMES DIES

Fans of the previous Shatter Me books who have always wanted to know what it's like in Adam's mind or fans of someone being faced by war while also processing a breakup and still caring deeply for those around them

8/10 This novella was shorter than the first one so a lot was packed into 62 pages but this is the first time we really get to see how James views the world and what he is feeling. I thought since the book was really short it was mostly about how Adam and Juliette and Kenji's conversation right before the war whereas in Unravel Me that was just a few pages so maybe I would have liked it to be a few chapters longer but I really like how this novella really shows the relationship between Adam and James and I also thought it was really nice how even after Juliette broke up with Adam he still is looking out for her and wants to protect her amidst his heartbreak sadness.
