The course of Joey’s life throughout the years gave a lot more detail into his backstory and reasoning for constantly going back to Shane Holland when in Shannon’s story he is a supporting character. The fact that Aoife chooses to stay with Joey knowing his past and habits with addiction shows how powerful trust can be even if it is repeatedly broken, and how the feelings that come with the emotional battle of a toxic relationship can never really go away.
